Bruce Gordon Davis was born 02 September 1922 in Fulton, Aransas Co., TX.

Graduated from Rockport High School in 1940. Baptism: Presby Ch., Rev Rodney Sunday, Fulton, TX
On 18 Sep 1942 enlisted in USMC in Houston, Harris Co., TX, took basic training at Marine Corps Base, San Diego, CA and Camp Pendleton near Oceanside, CA. On 2 Oct 1942 Bruce was appointed acting Corporal for Plt 839. He still has (Jan 1998) this certificate which had a picture of the main office of the Recruit Depot, Marine Corps Base with figures of two Marines, one in dress uniform and the other in WW I combat gear.
Served in Pacific Theater for 28 consecutive months from 24 Jan 1943 to 11 May 1945; served w/12th Marine Artillery Regiment but majority of duty with H&S Co., Regimental Intelligence Section, 9th Marine Regiment, 3d Marine Division. Stationed short time in New Zealand and spent 11 months on Guadalcanal, B.S.I. (still subject to Japanese air raids from northern Solomon's). Participated in campaigns of Guam and Iwo Jima as member of H&S Co., 9th Marine Regiment, 3d Marine Division. discharged from U.S. Marine Corps at Corpus Christi Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, TX, 13 Dec 1945.
Attended spring semester 1946 at Austin College, Sherman, TX. After marriage, attended Univ. of TX, Austin, TX. Graduated Univ. of TX, 1950, BA. Taught school at Edison High School in Houston, TX until called to active duty during Korean War as 2Lt. US Army. Served in Korea 31 Aug 1951 to April 1952; served in Japan

with 24th Inf Div for one year. Returned to US 15 Apr 1953; stationed at Ft. Sam Houston in Provost Marshal's Office, 4th US Army, until departure for assignment in Europe. With concurrent travel for family, sailed for Italy, Jan 1955, and served in SETAF (Southern European Task force), Livorno, Italy, until returned to US in Sep
1957. Separated from US Army with rank of Capt and returned to teaching in Houston, TX. Graduated with MEd from Univ of Houston 1965. Retired from Houston Independent School District as Principal of Sidney Lanier Middle School (formerly Junior High) in 1983.

He married Mary Virginia Jackson 31 August 1946 in 1st Presbyterian Church, Rockport, Aransas Co., TX., daughter of Stephen Jackson and Irene Norvell. She was born 18 November 1926 in Taft, San Patricio Co., TX., and died 15 May 2008 in Clarewood House, Houston, Harris Co., TX. She was the youngest child of Stephen Ford Jackson and Irene Barton (Norvell) Jackson of Rockport, TX. She grew up in Rockport, attended elementary school and high school, graduating from Rockport High School in 1943 as Valedictorian. Mary attended the University of Texas, Austin. where she graduated in 1946 with honors receiving a B.B.A. degree. At Texas University she was a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, honorary scholastic for freshman women, and Beta Beta Alpha, Business Administration Womens.
After graduation from the University, Mary was offered a job with the FBI but declined as she married Bruce G. Davis in August 1946. They returned to the University of Texas in Austin, TX, where Bruce narrator pursued his education and Mary worked on campus in the Veteran's Affairs Administration for Dr. Carl Brett.

While at the University the couple's first child, Ford Rouquette Davis was born 29 Dec 1948 in Seaton Hospital, Austin, TX. About 1959 Mary began working National Transport (affiliated with Shell Oil) which firm transported oil (barging) from TX, LA, and up the MS River to Il. In 1960 she took a secretarial job
with General Electric, a corporation for which she worked for twenty-six years, retiring Apr 1986. During her career with General Electric she worked solely in the Industrial Sales Division, the last eleven years of her employment working as a Sales Engineer Assistant.

Memorial Day weekend, 2003, Mary and Bruce moved from their home of over 40 years at 6614 Sharpview, Houston, TX to Clarewood House, Apt 624.

Note:

Bruce stayed off and on with Mrs. Davidson in the Fulton Mansion when he was a teenager in high school (before 1940) because she was suffering with MS and paid him a little money to stay there some nights. He slept in the front bedroom and was able to look around the house where he discovered the secret panel to the storage room. The door was allegedly made from cedar from Lebanon. In the room was stored firs, money and other valuables.
